Why become an Accountant?

1.     You`ll feel important.

Why? Because no matter where you are currently living and how the economy is doing, there is always going to be the need for accountants.

This is due to businesses continually needing accountants and bookkeepers to manage their budgets, taxes, financial reports, complete audits… and on, and on, and on…

You will be helping companies create strategic plans for success maximization and minimizing the chance of failure. Without you, it would be close to impossible for a business to analyse their financial performance accurately, therefore will result that companies will eventually make worse decisions for the future. The ‘perks’ of such is that during a recession, your role is very crucial hence you cannot expect to be laid off unless the company is in its final stages, but that is where you show your strength and showcase your ideas for the business` do`s & don’ts.

Therefore, accounting career prospects are currently above the roof and there is a lot of potential for further career growth.

2.     Accounting is like a buffet menu.

Accountants work in all kinds of places, with all sorts of people – you will find them in a lot of various departments, and in a lot of different organisations. With the current situation in the market, you can basically shape your accounting career the way you prefer.

Be it working full time with one organisation, or working for multiple clients at the same time (either on a self-employed basis or with an Accounting Firm). It depends on where the demand is and your preference of the said type for work.

The benefit? There is enough ‘wiggle’ room for you to shift, change and sort your accounting career the way you like.

3.     Your role is very crucial.

You have a lot of responsibility! Hey don`t forget its money, and that’s why the business opened up its doors in the first place.

You will usually have a say in big decisions, therefore you have the major control over the company`s day to day, and the industry in general. You will be also responsible for financial forecasts and planning and analyzing. You can help with which strategy or business plan will survive, and which will not.

Often, your future vision for a company is one that will be implemented… Exciting right?

4.     You`ll become an expert!

You will reach a stage in your career where the decision making process is monotonous without a single over-thought. People will eventually look for you for advice and for counsel. You will be respected because you get to see the bigger picture, and you will eventually gain the knowledge and expertise to make some sense out of it.

You`ll be expected to make ‘crucial’ decisions in the best interest of your client/boss. If you are smart and have a lot of integrity – the accounting industry will eat you up.
